"Beauty of Taiji" Wushu Performance was held in Bandar Seri Begawan

On 20 July 2018, the Chinese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam held the "Beauty of Taiji" Wushu Performance at the atrium of Times Square in Bandar Seri Begawan. Brunei National Wushu Team was invited to present the unique charm of Taiji and other Chinese traditional Wushu. The Honorable Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei Darussalam, graced the performance as the Guest of Honour with his family. More than 200 guests including officials from Bruneian government agencies, foreign envoys, friends from local Chinese communities and other circles attended the event.

In her remarks before the performance, H. E. Yang Jian, Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, made an introduction on the Taiji and Chinese Wushu culture. She said that Taiji culture reflects the philosophical thinking of ancient Chinese people that focuses on the symbiotic relationship between man and universe, man and nature, and between man and man. And Taijiquan is now an effective sport for many people to relax their bodies, stimulate blood circulation, keep fit and live longer. H.E. Yang Jian also paid high respect to the coaches, teachers and friends who have contributed to the promotion of Taiji and Wushu in Brunei.

During the one-hour show, 17 athletes from Brunei National Wushu Team presented more than 20 items of performance including Taiji Fist, Taiji Sword, Taiji Fan, Sabreplay and Cudgelplay. The beautiful and dynamic moves of the athletes, and the special design of the costumes and stage background have attracted a large number of people to gather and watch when cheers and applauses were heard from time to time.

The coaches of Brunei National Wushu Team come from China. The Team has gained lots of medals in international competitions such as World Junior Wushu Championships, Asian Junior Wushu Championships, Asian Wushu Championships, and Southeast Asian Games.
