Chinese Ambassador H.E. Yu Hong Attended Opening Ceremony of Chinese Tour Guide Training Course Under China-Brunei Year of Tourism

On 3 November 2020, an openning ceremony of Chinese tour guides training course under China-Brunei Year of Tourism, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei, was held in Bandar Seri Begawan. H.E. Ms. Yu Hong, Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, and H.E. Hajah Tutiaty, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei, attended the ceremony and delivered their remarks.

Ambassador Yu Hong expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei, and the China Youth Travel Service Group (CYTS) for hosting this training course.

Ambassador Yu Hong said that this training course is part of activities of the China-Brunei Year of Tourism, which is an important consensus reached by Chinese President H.E Xi Jinping and His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Due to the unexpected COVID-19 outbreak, the activities under China-Brunei Year of Tourism are not able to proceed as planned. Some of the China-Brunei Year of Tourism activities are to be postponed as agreed by both sides. The Chinese tour guide training course, starting today, is among the efforts to explore more possibilities for cultural exchanges under the “new normal”.

Ambassador Yu Hong pointed out that, in the face of the serious challenge of the epidemic, the peoples of the two countries have carried forward the traditional friendship, extended helping-hand to each other. During the Chinese Spring Festival, Brunei travel agencies provided kind assistance to the Chinese tourists on their return trip. We were deeply moved and encouraged by the chairman of Brunei Tourism Association, who led the people from the tourism industry to make a video to show support to Wuhan and China. The Chinese Embassy in Brunei extended its heartfelt thanks to the sisters and brothers in Brunei.

Ambassador Yu Hong emphasized that, the two countries have strengthened mutual trust and deepened cooperation in the fight against COVID-19. The year of 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei. China will work together with Brunei to promote even closer exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

In her speech, the Permanent Secretary H.E. Hajah Tutiaty expressed appreciation and gratitude to the Chinese side for organizing this training course and the Bruneian side is looking forward to working closely with the Chinese side to organize other activities in conjunction to the China-Brunei Tourism Year.

The 10-day online Chinese tour guide training course includes lectures on “basic qualities of tour guides”, “practical skills for tour guides” and so on. 24 participants consisting of tour guides and administration officers from local travel agencies participated the course.
