Premier Li Keqiang Arrives in Bandar Seri Begawan to Attend Meetings of East Asian Leaders and to Pay Official Visit to Brunei

On the afternoon of 9 October local time, at the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council arrived by special plane at Brunei International Airport in Bandar Seri Begawan, starting an official visit to Brunei. During the visit to Brunei, Li Keqiang will attend the 16th ASEAN-China (10+1) Summit, the 16th ASEAN Plus Three (10+3) Summit and the 8th East Asia Summit.

Brunei's Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, on behalf of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, greeted Li Keqiang at the airport and held a grand welcome ceremony with special etiquette of Brunei. Li Keqiang and Al-Muhtadee Billah jointly mounted to the inspection platform. The military band played twice the national anthems of the two countries. Accompanied by Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Li Keqiang reviewed the Guard of Honour.

The government and military senior officials of Brunei, Zheng Xianglin, Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, as well as foreign Ambassadors to Brunei also received the delegation at the airport.

Li Keqiang expressed, I am glad to come to Brunei which has long enjoyed the reputation of "Abode of Peace". I would like to convey the cordial greetings and good wishes from the Chinese government and people to the government and people of Brunei. He said that China and Brunei are friendly neighbours. In recent years, bilateral political mutual trust has been unceasingly deepened with fruitful cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and energy as well as sound communication and coordination in international and regional affairs. China is ready to carry forward with Brunei the traditional friendship between the two countries, to uplift the level of mutually beneficial cooperation and to push for new development of China-Brunei strategic cooperative relations.

During the visit, Li Keqiang will respectively hold talks and meet with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, major members of the royal family of Brunei and others, exchanging in-depth views on promoting the development of China-Brunei relations. The two countries will issue a joint statement and sign cooperation documents in energy and other fields.
